Amazon is making an investment to remove fake reviews before a customer sees them
Examples of successful proceedings:
Amazon continues to file lawsuits against fake review brokers around the world who knowingly engaged in illegal activities designed to defraud customers and harm merchants.
These brokers pose as legitimate companies and approach customers directly through websites, social media channels and encrypted messaging services, offering to write fake reviews in exchange for money, free merchandise or other incentives.
- In March 2024, Amazon secured a court judgement against Auctionsentinel.com. They sold fake five-star ‘verified’ reviews to artificially inflate product ratings.
- AmzonReview.com sold fake reviews and used accounts under their control to publish fake content.
- Dragon-Dealz.com provided attackers with a platform that manages Amazon merchant accounts to offer reimbursement to potential reviewers for purchases in exchange for fake positive reviews.
- Reviewerschannel.com facilitated the creation of fake reviews by offering refunds for products to potential reviewers. They operated in the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
REMEMBER!
Using fake reviews may result in their removal, as well as the blocking of your products and trading account.
Amazon actively combats them, using a combination of machine learning models, expert researchers and lawyers to ensure that every review is genuine.
In 2023, the marketplace blocked more than 250 million reviews.
